Watch your thoughts, they become words.
Watch your words, they become actions.
Watch your actions, they become habits.
Watch your habits, they become your character.
Watch your character, it becomes your destiny.

The above quote is often attributed to Frank Outlaw. It has also been attributed to Ralph Waldo Emmerson. Some say Buddah and others say it was an unknown author. Regardless of origin…there are some tasty nuggets in there.

Watch your thoughts, they become words.

2 Corinthians 10:5(ESV) …and take every thought captive to obey Christ,

We have a tendency to forget that a person is not only committed to Jesus Christ for salvation, but is also committed, responsible, and accountable to Jesus Christ’s view of God, the world, and of sin and the devil. This means that each person must recognize the responsibility to “be transformed by the renewing of [his] mind. . . .” (Romans 12:2). ~ Oswald Chambers

Watch your words, they become actions.

Matthew 12:36-37(MSG) Let me tell you something: Every one of these careless words is going to come back to haunt you. There will be a time of Reckoning. Words are powerful; take them seriously. Words can be your salvation. Words can also be your damnation.”

James 3:6(AMP) And the tongue is a fire. [The tongue is a] world of wickedness set among our members, contaminating and depraving the whole body and setting on fire the wheel of birth (the cycle of man’s nature), being itself ignited by hell (Gehenna).

Psalms 34:13(AMP) Keep your tongue from evil and your lips from speaking deceit.

Watch your actions, they become habits.

1 Corinthians 10:31(AMP) So then, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you may do, do all for the honor and glory of God.

1 John 1:5-7(MSG) If we claim that we experience a shared life with him and continue to stumble around in the dark, we’re obviously lying through our teeth—we’re not living what we claim. But if we walk in the light, God himself being the light, we also experience a shared life with one another, as the sacrificed blood of Jesus, God’s Son, purges all our sin.

Watch your habits, they become your character.

The Bible doesn’t speak directly to the word “habits” but it does speak to the meaning…a usual way of behaving : something that a person does often in a regular and repeated way…

Romans 12:2(MSG) Don’t become so well-adjusted to your culture that you fit into it without even thinking. Instead, fix your attention on God. You’ll be changed from the inside out. Readily recognize what he wants from you, and quickly respond to it. Unlike the culture around you, always dragging you down to its level of immaturity, God brings the best out of you, develops well-formed maturity in you.

Ephesians 5:1(AMP) Therefore be imitators of God [copy Him and follow His example], as well-beloved children [imitate their father].

1 Thessalonians 5:17(ESV) pray without ceasing,

Proverbs 13:1-5(AMP) A wise son heeds [and is the fruit of] his father’s instruction and correction, but a scoffer listens not to rebuke. A good man eats good from the fruit of his mouth, but the desire of the treacherous is for violence. He who guards his mouth keeps his life, but he who opens wide his lips comes to ruin. The appetite of the sluggard craves and gets nothing, but the appetite of the diligent is abundantly supplied. A [consistently] righteous man hates lying and deceit, but a wicked man is loathsome [his very breath spreads pollution] and he comes [surely] to shame.(Note: The entire chapter of Proverbs 13 is full and rich with habits.)

Watch your character, it becomes your destiny.

Romans 5:1-5(ESV) Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. Through him we have also obtained access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and we rejoice in hope of the glory of God. Not only that, but we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, and hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us.

Proverbs 22:1(AMP) A good name is rather to be chosen than great riches, and loving favor rather than silver and gold.

Proverbs 22:5(MSG) The perverse travel a dangerous road, potholed and mud-slick; if you know what’s good for you, stay clear of it.

Proverbs 22:17-18(AMP) Listen (consent and submit) to the words of the wise, and apply your mind to my knowledge; For it will be pleasant if you keep them in your mind [believing them]; your lips will be accustomed to [confessing] them.

It may seem like we have a lot to “watch” however…We only stumble when we walk in the dark.

John 12:35(ESV) So Jesus said to them, “The light is among you for a little while longer. Walk while you have the light, lest darkness overtake you. The one who walks in the darkness does not know where he is going.

What’s your destiny?

In Him,
Gypsy
