The essence of the beautiful is unity in variety. ~ Felix Mendelssohn

Isn’t variety a wonderful thing? As a Chef, a variety of tastes, textures, herbs, seasonings, emulsifiers, acids and sweeteners can be combined to make a harmonious blend of goodness which in the end…all funnels down to a single plate of perfection.

There are a variety of tributaries which flow into a single river or create a lake. We have a variety of roads that will take us to a single interstate highway which will lead us through a variety of states, geographical terrains and climates. We, as humans, hold a variety of views on a variety of topics, likes and dislikes.

God created an astounding variety of plant and animal life as well as races, languages, cultures etc. It’s just not possible to accuse God of being boring!

I believe God deals with us in a variety of ways, depending on our personalities, experiences and points of reference. I had a very close friend who had a small phrase she used frequently with me… “God is smart.” That single phrase has haunted and blessed me over the years and still has a pleasing impact on my Spirit. God IS smart and He knows exactly what it will take to reach any individual in any of life’s circumstances.

As we go through life’s journey, God will reach down to us on whichever path we are on, however, once that occurs, there is only one path to follow, one truth to believe in, and one life to live.

John 14:6(ESV) Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.

And the gate is narrow…

Matthew 7:13-14(AMP) Enter through the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and spacious and broad is the way that leads away to destruction, and many are those who are entering through it. But the gate is narrow (contracted by pressure) and the way is straitened and compressed that leads away to life, and few are those who find it.

No matter how much our tender hearts want everyone in our sphere of influence to experience life in Christ, those two facts cannot be challenged, ignored or erased. There is no variety when it comes to gaining eternal life in the Kingdom of God basking in His glory.

As we journey through this life…May we continue to reveal the truth and live in the “unity of variety”.

In Him,
