John 7:38(AMP) He who believes in Me [who cleaves to and trusts in and relies on Me] as the Scripture has said, From his innermost being shall flow [continuously] springs and rivers of living water. ~ Jesus
Living in the desert, you quickly develop a healthy habit of water intake. Especially when outdoors working or hiking. It is a simple, pure, life-sustaining necessity.
A few years ago 2 Dutch tourists, on their way to AZ, stopped to take in the desert beauty of Joshua Tree National Park. The Park is roughly 1,240 square miles with about 75% of it designated “wilderness”. They were not only unprepared for the extreme heat (115 degrees) but unfortunately they did everything wrong…they went into the park around noon…the heat of the day. They did not take a sufficient supply of water. They were traveling in a Dodge Charger and had driven into an area which is clearly designated “4 wheel drive vehicles only”. The car got stuck in the rough terrain and they made the fatal mistake of not staying with the vehicle where they had shade (and a stranded vehicle is easier to spot by a rescue team) but took off on foot. Their bodies were recovered about 5 miles from where the vehicle was found.
In the Scripture, depending on the source, “water” is mentioned roughly 720 times. It is a necessity of life both physically as well as spiritually. As Believers, we find ourselves having to face the scorching heat of the world on a daily basis. The only way to survive is with the Living Water Christ has provided.
When David was in the wilderness of Judah he declared…
Psalms 63:1( ESV) O God, you are my God; earnestly I seek you; my soul thirsts for you; my flesh faints for you, as in a dry and weary land where there is no water.
That type of thirst goes far beyond a Sunday pew setting. It is deep within a repented heart and when that kind of thirst stirs the soul it becomes the primary focus.
John 4:14(AMP) But whoever takes a drink of the water that I will give him shall never, no never, be thirsty any more. But the water that I will give him shall become a spring of water welling up (flowing, bubbling) [continually] within him unto (into, for) eternal life.
John 7:38(AMP) He who believes in Me [who cleaves to and trusts in and relies on Me] as the Scripture has said, From his innermost being shall flow [continuously] springs and rivers of living water.
There are conditions there…First of all…we must drink the Water. Then there’s the statement “he who believes in Me as the Scripture has said”. Belief such as that can only be stirred by the Holy Spirit and when it is, the intense thirst can only be quenched by Christ. And take note of the purity of the Living water…it is not stagnant as in a pond. Nope…no pond scum there…it “wells up and flows springs and rivers”…It stands to reason, if it “wells up and flows” everyone in our sphere of influence is going to see it. And personally, I pray that “bubbling brook” gets them all wet.
