Jesus Christ came to betroth a people to himself at the price of his own blood. ~ John Piper
Weddings! What a glorious event! And the planning…OH the planning…sometimes years in the making!
I find it so fascinating that we have such busy and full lives, and yet when two make the decision to become one, we find the time to prepare and orchestrate without skipping a beat in our regular routines of work, social lives, cleaning, cooking, etc.
First there’s setting the date, then the Bridal shower, bachelor/bachelorette parties, menu planning, party favors, place settings, decorating both the church and the reception hall, selection of the Bridal gown, the gowns for the Bridal party, flowers, the shoes (OH MY! The SHOOZE!?..Wait…Never mind.), invitations (selecting, addressing, mailing), photographer and videographer to schedule, and in the midst of it all you have the dynamics of blending the two families. It seems like there simply isn’t enough time for to get it all done and yet it does indeed manage to come together, just in time, for the sacred event.
As Believers, should we not be putting an equal effort into our pending wedding? After all, we ARE the Bride of Christ, and we are to make ourselves ready…
Revelation 19:7(ESV) Let us rejoice and exult and give him the glory, for the marriage of the Lamb has come, and his Bride has made herself ready;
We have already been given the finest gown of salvation…
Isaiah 61:10(AMP) I will greatly rejoice in the Lord, my soul will exult in my God; for He has clothed me with the garments of salvation, He has covered me with the robe of righteousness, as a bridegroom decks himself with a garland, and as a bride adorns herself with her jewels.
If we are engaged to Jesus…Should we allow our eyes to drift in another direction?
If we are engaged to Jesus…Should we allow ourselves to get lazy in relationship building?
If we are engaged to Jesus…Should we be fornicating with the world?
This wedding comes at the highest price of all. Are we prepared to give the call…
Revelation 22:17(ESV) The Spirit and the Bride say, “Come.”
Oh dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ…We are betrothed to the King of Kings! Everything He has is ours and there is no “prenup”! May we continue, with the energic enthusiasm it deserves to prepare ourselves for the day we meet our Beloved Groom…face to face.
Our Groom is standing at the alter waiting…Is He smiling at the sight of His Bride as she makes the journey down the aisle?
