A couple weeks ago, Mr. Gypsy had the unfortunate experience of having to go to the grocery store…with me. To make matters worse…it was produce day.
As we entered the store, he grabbed a cart and proudly proclaimed “I’ll push while you do your thing!” He had no clue what he signed up for.
We made our way through the aisles tossing whatever we needed into the cart. Then we came to the produce section. He patiently stood by the cart as I made my selections. The most crisp apples, shuffling through the mushrooms to find the tightly closed cap ones, shaking the cilantro checking for scent (if it has no smell, it has no flavor), struggling to find blemish free strawberries, squeezing for hard onions, checking for firm cucumbers, searching for the not to soft avocados, gleaning the green beans, the list seemed endless…to him. I carefully placed my items in the cart making sure the more tender items were protected from things that could crush or bruise them. I glanced over once expecting to see impatience, justifiably, radiating from his face and was greeted instead with what I can only describe as awe. He looked at me and said “I had no idea you did all this!” You see…for him, at the end of the day somehow, magically, dinner simply appears on a plate set before him ready for consumption. TA-DA!
For me, however, I am careful, to the extreme, with my chosen ingredients. I want the best I can get to accomplish my purpose.
As Believers, we are God’s chosen. He has not only selected us, but has a purpose for us.
2 Thessalonians 2:13(NKJV) But we are bound to give thanks to God always for you, brethren beloved by the Lord, because God from the beginning chose you for salvation through sanctification by the Spirit and belief in the truth
John 15:16(AMP) You have not chosen Me, but I have chosen you and I have appointed you [I have planted you], that you might go and bear fruit and keep on bearing, and that your fruit may be lasting [that it may remain, abide], so that whatever you ask the Father in My Name [as presenting all that I Am], He may give it to you.
Galatians 1:15(AMP) But when He, Who had chosen and set me apart [even] before I was born and had called me by His grace (His undeserved favor and blessing), saw fit and was pleased
Wow! Did you catch that?!? “Saw fit and was pleased”! There are days I have a hard time absorbing that. In all our fickle, fragile and failing humanity, the God of the universe “saw fit and was pleased” at choosing us! Mmmmm…I’ll take a Cafe Mocha with an extra shot of espresso to go with THAT sweetness!
Being chosen also brings responsibility…
2 Peter 1:10(AMP) Because of this, brethren, be all the more solicitous and eager to make sure (to ratify, to strengthen, to make steadfast) your calling and election; for if you do this, you will never stumble or fall.
2 Corinthians 13:5(AMP) Examine and test and evaluate your own selves to see whether you are holding to your faith and showing the proper fruits of it. Test and prove yourselves [not Christ]. Do you not yourselves realize and know [thoroughly by an ever-increasing experience] that Jesus Christ is in you—unless you are [counterfeits] disapproved on trial and rejected?
Oh dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ! May we recognize the “glorious, unshakable, objective foundation” of our Christianity, find our minds continually in awe of being chosen by God and find our hearts enthusiastic at fulfilling our responsibility to Him!
